Our M.D. Andy graduated with a B.Sc. in Physics. He then went on to gain an M.Sc in Photonics and ultimately achieved a Ph.D. in Organic Electronics, all from the University of St. Andrews. This educational background has equipped him with strong analytical skills and a knack for working with complex systems. Additionally, his expertise informs our project management consultancy, particularly in developing effective quality management systems, ensuring a deep understanding of scientific principles is applied to our processes.
Andy's early career included working for a large defence contractor, ultimately serving the UK MoD as a main client. It was during this time that Andy discovered a strong affinity for project management consultancy, which naturally led him to a keen interest in quality management systems. One of his projects was recognized as an exemplar during an annual audit, further fueling his passion for both fields, with a particular emphasis on quality management.
After his time in project management, Andy joined a small project management consultancy that collaborated with and served the MoD, focusing on cost savings, efficiency improvements, and inventory management to benefit taxpayers. During his tenure, Andy seized the chance to establish and manage a fully accredited Quality Management System (QMS) for the consultancy, positioning it favorably for future opportunities.
Subsequently, Andy transitioned to the renewable energy sector, where he became the head of Customer Support at a leading lidar company. He effectively leveraged his quality management systems experience by building and renewing the company’s QMS, which he successfully maintained for over 8 years. Furthermore, he enhanced and managed the engineering change process, making it more efficient and transparent.
Eventually, Andy took the initiative to establish Woodthorpe Consultants to provide project management consultancy and quality management systems services to businesses. Drawing on his 20+ years of experience managing projects and quality frameworks in Engineering and Scientific environments, our firm believes that effective quality management should not be burdensome and that project management is inherently a collaborative experience.
